History of Banarasi Sarees
The Banarasi saris gained popularity during the Mughal era. Persian motifs and Indian designs on silk, studded with gold and silver, remained the hallmark of Mughal royal patronage.
The intricate zari work, heavy brocade pallav, shimmering katan base — all evolved under the influence of imperial ateliers in Varanasi, transforming the city into the silk capital of the Indian subcontinent.
